“I will volunteer for the IRA when I feel like I can actually contribute, dad” you say in an effort to persuade Seamus to stop pressuring you into the IRA. “But you have so much free time, there is no reason you shouldn’t go” Seamus retaliates. Thinking quickly to keep the offer of the dance class secret, you say “I will join a martial arts club at the community center, then I will be able to fight with skill when the time comes” Seamus finally gives in and agrees “Now you’re thinking with your head, boy.”
You and Amelia go to to the first dance class and have the best time of your lives. You learn about different styles of dance, most of which neither of you have even heard about. You love Salsa because you feel the music and rhythm in your soul. Amelia prefers Jazz because of its improvisational and free nature.
You two have been going to the classes for a few months now. You both have learned so much more than you ever thought you would. You are both getting very good now and you even hold your own mock competitions. You have made so many new friends through dance, they have all pushed you to strive for your best not only in dance but in school and life.
One day the instructor gives out flyers to a dance competition, you and Amelia are intrigued but nervous. It is a large competition and you don’t know if you’re up to the task. “Don’t worry about it Jon we will practice and do great, we will show off all of our skills” Amelia says with a wink.
Another issue that you think about is that you don’t know how your dad will react if you tell him about all of this dancing. By keeping these dance classes from Seamus for so long, it would come as a very big shock and he might not like it at all.
