You approach your dad one day as he is reading the newspaper. You feel unsure about telling him but there is no other time that you can do it so you just give yourself a last push of encouragement and tell Seamus that you need to talk. “What seems to be the matter Jon?” Seamus says. “Dad I hope you aren’t mad but I feel that I need to tell you now.” Seamus seems a bit worried but allows you to continue, “I haven’t been going to martial arts classes all this time,” your heart is pounding at this time and time seems to stop, “I’ve been taking dance classes with Amelia and now we have a dance competition that I really want to be a part of.”
Seamus sits there looking at you as if he still hasn’t received the words that you have spoken, but eventually he closes his newspaper and takes off his glasses, you think that he might kill you right there and then but then he let out a chuckle, “You know, I always wanted to dance. My father never let me because it wasn’t something that he thought Macmillan men should be doing.” He seems to reflect on a rough past. “I swore that I would never be like him as a parent but I see that by making you hide this from me all of this time I have become him.” Seamus says grimly. “Go to that competition, I will become the parent that I swore to myself to be.”
Seamus is true to his word and goes to watch you and Amelia, beaming with pride the whole time. This is one of the best days of your life and you will remember it forever.
